US rocker,Chris Cornell will perform the theme song. He’s the frontman for Audioslave, and the former lead singer in Soundgarden, a grunge rock group.
They got to top of the US charts with “Black Hole Sun”.

Casino Royale will be James Bond’s 21st instalment.

“You Know My Name” was written in collaboration with the longtime 007 music man, composer David Arnold.

Casino Royale is based on the first 007 novel from Ian Fleming and follows Bond’s early years. The film centres on a game of high-stakes poker between Bond and terrorist banker Le Chiffre (Mads Mikkelsen) at the Casino Royale.

Wet wet wet

The concert was in Sheffield Arena 1993 and I was nervously preparing myself
to go to the stage to give Shirley a basket of flowers. Those were the days before I started to give Shirley champagne.

Nervous, because at the 1992 concert in Sheffield Arena (which was Shirley’s first concert there) the stewards wouldn’t let anyone pass to get to the stage.

I remember standing in the aisle with another chap shouting “Shirley! Shirley!” at the top of our voices and waving like mad to get Shirley’s attention. She looked in our direction and saw the stewards arms outstretched preventing us getting past him.

“What do you think you’re doing?”, she remarked, “Let them through!
Let them through!” and we made our way to Shirley after I said to the steward
“I’d give up if I was you”.

Anyway back to this 1993 concert. No attempt was made to stop me (I needn’t have worried after all) and I got to the stage with my basket of flowers. Shirley saw me approaching the stage and came to greet me.

1 – I’ve just stood up as Shirley finished her song

2 – Shirley sees me and walks towards me

3 – We meet at the stage and shake hands

We shook hands, had a short chat and she took the flowers off me. My mission was accomplished. As I returned to my seat there was laughter from the audience but I had no idea what they were laughing at.

4 – I hand her the basket of flowers

I sat down and enjoyed the rest of the concert. All was fully revealed when I had my photos developed. There was a picture of me returning to my seat with Shirley on the stage holding the basket of flowers at arms length with a trickling stream of water cascading from it. If you look closely at the picture you will see the trickle
- and the expression on Shirley’s face says it all.

5 – I return to my seat while water trickles from the basket

I could have died and so I sent a short letter to Shirley to say ‘sorry’ together with the photo of the incident. A few weeks later to my surprise she returned it to me with a hand written message saying ‘David, thank you for the flowers’, which really made my day.

I hope you enjoyed sharing this ‘embarrasing’ moment with me, and I would
say to any fans who get stopped going to the stage, – just shout and get
Shirley’s attention – when she sees you she will beckon you over.

Thanks to Dave Stevenson for sharing this sweet personal memory
