Cardiff Castle + DCOL + TIML

Some great memories of the outdoor concert at Cardiff Castle on

Saturday July 29th 1995

And it feels like yesterday

The weather was perfect, the crowd was friendly (well, it was Cardiff) and the catering vans offered a wide choice of food. Most guests sat on the lawn enjoying their drinks in the afternoon. The atmosphere was warm and relaxed before the show started

Support was the Bootleg Beatles, who were great

A local radio DJ gave an amusing build-up

Mike Alexander and the orchestra came on, then Shirley (not a Dame then) appeared to a rapturous ovation, and the party started!

The outdoors seating was comfortable and well spaced. All very civilised, unlike the Faenol Festival in 2006 with its monsoon (which couldn’t be helped), and bad disabled access (which could)

All ending with a spectacular fireworks display from the stone keep

These images from Rien recapture part of the fun

Come back to Cardiff Castle, Shirley!

“Where’s she gone?”
