Here’s an extract from a new message from DSB’s Official Web Site, reproduced here for the benefit of fans who may not be on their mailing list:

“The sun came out for Dame Shirley yesterday as she stole the show at Glastonbury. She had a great time and loved the audience’s wonderful reaction, some were wearing DSB T-Shirts and feather boas and there were Welsh flags flying loud and proud above the soaked but excited crowd.

“The whole local farming community were so excited to have her there, they’d been talking about it for weeks and were thrilled that the sun came out for her. The rain started again as soon as she came off stage but nothing could dampen the jubilant Dame who will be keeping her bejewelled wellies for her next festival performance – she’s looking forward to it already!

“Festival organiser Michael Eavis and The Arctic Monkeys (who had paid tribute to Dame Shirley earlier in the festival with their own rendition of Diamonds Are Forever) watched Dame Shirley’s breathtaking performance from the side of the stage, loving it!

“Some of you will have already seen news reports this morning about Dame Shirley’s post-Glastonbury drama. The helicopter she was travelling in had to make an emergency landing in very poor weather. We’re happy to confirm that Dame Shirley is now safely tucked up in her hotel and would like to thank shocked Surrey locals for their hospitality.

” What a weekend.

” Dame Shirley’s exciting new album, Get The Party Started, is out today (Monday) and is available in record stores, supermarkets and online.

” Look out for the fabulous TV commercial for the new album airing all this week in the UK, we’re hoping to make it available on Youtube and MySpace as soon as possible so fans around the world can see it too.

” Catch Dame Shirley all this week on Radio 2 as she chooses her Tracks of my Years on Ken Bruce’s mid-morning show. You can also listen again online.

” And last but not least, a very warm welcome to the many hundreds of new fans who have joined the mailing list after hearing DSB at Glastonbury. We’ve been overwhelmed by the wonderful reaction and are thrilled that so many are getting the DSB Party started, right now!

“Love to one and all from Camp DSB “

Here’s the BBC news about the incident:
Bad weather forced Dame Shirley Bassey’s helicopter to land in a school field in Surrey as she was flying home from the Glastonbury Festival.

From Astrid – German news

Rough translation:

“Shirley Bassey completely cool after forced landing

LONDON – the British Soul Diva Shirley Bassey (70), set down by a helicopter after a forced landing, concentrated on the important things: Tea and toilet.

After her helicopter made an emergency landing on Sunday evening because of a technical difficulty south of London, the singer climbed from the machine and asked the merry throng: “Can I use somebody’s toilet? And a cup of tea would be nice .”

Friendly neighbourly residents welcomed the singer, reported British media.

Bassey was on the way back from the music festival in Glastonbury.”

And this report is from ‘Monsters and Critics’, a news site

The helicopter pilot said: “I was losing power and the mist was so thick I couldn’t see where I was going. We have had an almighty escape.”
