The Digitally Remastered Goldfinger

What an improvement on the old print!

As explained in blog dated July 23rd, the film has been enhanced.

I saw it last night in a sold-out cinema, and enjoyed what is still an entertaining movie.

They defined Bond in 1964.

Not a single scratch, blip or fault. The restoration is beautifully done.

I’m glad they kept to vintage stereo instead of coding it up to surround sound.

The audience laughed at Sean Connery’s quips that are sprinkled into this adventure.

The casting is, of course, perfect.

Well, this can’t go past without DSB’s performance of the theme song 40+ years later:

No 16 at HMV + New pic at the Red Cross Ball

Thanks to Dave for this great news after Sunday’s disappointment:

” Dear Peggy,
I don’t know if you’ve noticed or not but although Shirley is only No 47 in the national chart, the single has entered HMV’s Top 40 Singles at No 16.
Keep up the good work,
Kind regards,
Dave “

Web Of Sin? – Don’t Go In!
To mark the new High Resolution print of Goldfinger, being screened for one night only tomorrow (Tuesday) at specially equipped cinemas around the UK…
Another Shirley – Shirley Eaton. The original pretty girl who let that villain pour golden words in her ear.
But his lies can’t disguise what you fear.
For a golden girl knows when he’s kissed her, it’s the kiss of death!

X

Thanks to Neil for this rarity:

“Here is a signed photo of Shirley Eaton for all the fans, Goldfinger of course is back in the cinemas again and getting rave reviews for its digital transfer.

Kind regards to all around the globe.

Neil x”

Sunday Supplement – Where’s that Party? + Duets + Flashy Merc + Music

Get The Party Started didn’t appear today

in the UK Top 40

A fan told me it was at 42
***
Another fan told me today:
” It’s very unlikely that the single will be in the top 40 this afternoon.
Lots of people are buying the album and the main version is on there.
With the mixes there’s always the problem that the sort of people who buy mixes tend to download them, so despite their popularity with the clubber generation this isn’t reflected in sales. “
Never mind, the album is selling steadily and will do for a long time.
The lack of TV promotion didn’t help.

Dual Duet Rumours

Both Pink and Will Young have expressed interest in recording duets with DSB

A duet with Pink would be fun

Will has a soft voice – would he be overpowered by The Dame?

Does anyone remember seeing her wonderful duet with Michael Ball at the Royal Festival Hall?

He has a strong voice but had to work hard to keep up.

# We’ll be looking flashy in my Mercedes-Benz #

Thanks to Calum for his amusing message…

“Hi Peggy

I have been working away for the last month and have come home to my new DSB album which is FANTASTIC.

I now drive around my home town with the roof of my car down playing DSB full blast.

But now we have a new album do you know if there is any chance of there being another tour?

Or any other concerts?

Keep the blog up, great work, I log in every day.

Thanks Calum”

I wish I lived in your town Calum, then I could hear the album in the street.
Perhaps your car has two turbochargers. One for the engine and one for the hi-fi.

No news about a concert, but as soon as even a tiny rumour appears it will be added you can be sure.

The O2 Stadium in London beckons, and a connection with promoter Harvey Goldsmith has been noted.

MUSIC

From the Royal Variety Performance 2005

IMHO this glorious song should be released

This video has everything: DSB at her best, a magnificent orchestration by Mike Dixon, and those enraptured twins

Thanks to Scot for a souvenir of that evening in Cardiff’s beautiful Millennium Centre

I’ve still got some closing confetti : -)

Much less mud than Glastonbury
