Thanks to Gary for this interesting message and link
Yes, Shirley is officially History!
A publisher in Cardiff has produced a series of books for the school curriculum
Among books about Henry VII and The Plague, there’s one about Shirley Bassey
“Hi Peggy,
The new site looks great! It is much easier to navigate, although I
miss the picture of Shirley on the left hand side of the screen.
I enjoyed the clip from the Mayfair Club. “It’s Yourself” is a very moving song.
How large was the Mayfair Club? It would seem that most of the clubs
back then were very small venues. Hmm, I’m still playing small
venues…..
I noticed that in the past, you linked a version of “Excuse Me”. I
recently saw a version that Shirley did in Germany around 1972(?) on
YouTube. What I liked about that performance was her ability at the
end of the song to “drown out” or at least be equal to the orchestra
of which was probably close to full volume. I believe the cameraman
was startled because the camera moved slightly. Wow! I was literally
“pinned” back into my chair. At the end of the song, she hugged her
music director, but I do not understand why she was taking a bow to
the orchestra and not the audience.
My wife came across this storybook on Shirley. You may have seen this,
but here is the link in case you have not.

Keep up the great job!
Best Regards,
Gary “
… I never went to the Mayfair Club, Gary, but I think it was quite small
I’ve seen her in 1,000-seater clubs like Blazers (Windsor), Caesar’s Palace (Luton) and the Circus Tavern (Grays)
All the shows were sensational, because Shirley was understandably less nervous in an intimate atmosphere
I don’t think nightclubs can afford her now!
