From this 1991 album…
Dame Shirley’s 1998 performance of a classic 1985 hit song by the rock group Foreigner.
A slowburn start… you know you can expect an expressive crescendo!
Nobody else sings like this…
Thanks to Scot
Shirley said: “I love the Foreigner song. I’ve attached myself to it, and so has the audience. They’ve never heard a solo artist sing it before.”
Way back on 23rd February 2007 there was a page about the time DSB nearly sang the theme song to Thunderball.
Please click here to visit that page.
Sir Tom Jones, of course, ended up doing his excellent title song for the fourth James Bond adventure.
Gary has just sent me links to Dionne Warwick and Shirley Bassey each singing the original song that was replaced by Tom.
I know the story of the original “Thunderball” theme was on the Blog last February, but I am not sure if the following clips were posted:
Dionne Warwick’s version of Mr Kiss Kiss Bang Bang:
Shirley Bassey’s version:
The Tom Jones “Thunderball” is the best.
“Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang” is awful, but Shirley Bassey made it sound good.

Ruby wax? Better than Great Yarmouth!
A Dame at Madame’s
I hope you have recovered from the scary waxwork heads from Great Yarmouth’s notorious museum.
If you want to look again at the ghastly visages please click here to revisit page dated 19th January.
This is not recommended for fans of a nervous disposition
Much better wax has been found at Madame Tussauds in London and in Las Vegas.
According to the web site of the Vegas Tussauds, at the Venetian hotel, DSB is not now listed.
The price of adult admission at Great Yarmouth is £3, London Tussauds is £22.50, and Las Vegas Tussauds is $25.
Here again is Shirley unveiling her London waxwork:
Ian says “The dress Shirley is wearing here to greet her waxwork is the silver Cleopatra dress first seen at Brighton on UK tour 1996.”
And if you really want to know, the horrible Great Yarmouth wax head is being auctioned in Aylsham, Norfolk 12-13th February.
Estimate £50 to £80
That’s quite enough about waxworks. Subject melted, I mean closed!
Thanks to David for this response to the 17th January page with Julio Iglesias & Nana Mouskouri singing Grande x3…
“Just to note, in passing, that both Julio and Nana have sung at the Eurovision Song Contest.
If only we could get DSB to do the UK’s song in 2008!!
Regards & many thanks for the blog – always interesting and enjoyable.
Well, David I can’t see that happening.
DSB would win in spite of the anti-British voting through Europe.
Some Eurovision observers consider that’s due to the UK’s involvement in Iraq. Who knows?
The British songs have not exactly impressed the viewers in recent years.
Perhaps DSB could represent Monaco
