The second series of Britain’s Got Talent has made its debut, with the first of seven weeks worth of auditions from across the UK.

In 2007, the wonderful Welsh opera singer Paul Potts won by miles. He has progressed to a great career.

2008 looks like it will present a poorer prospect.

“I was hoping to find the next Shirley Bassey or Tom Jones, and I got a yodelling cowboy from Cardiff,” Simon Cowell sighed.

“I’m just worried about Britain right now” he added later, out of despair at the lack of talent so far.

I’m sure that some fantastic acts will soon rise to the challenge.
