I knew if I searched hard enough I would be able to find a photo of the ‘gownless eveing strap’ that Shirley wore when I saw her in 1967 at the Talk Of The Town’. Unfortunately it is only in black/white. It was in a gold material and was really quite sensational. I’m sure you can appreciate it caused quite a stir back in 1967. It was all held together by one small hook.
Doug Darnell designed some amazing gowns for Shirley during her career and this one was no exception.
From the 1974 album “Nobody does it like me” this jewel of a song: “The trouble with hello is goodbye”. The album was recorded in Los Angeles while all the other United Artists Records Shirley made were recorded in London. In those days Shirley made 2 albums each year. It was released as the b-side of the single “When you smile”.
The album was re-released in 2006 on CD along with another masterpiece: “Love life and feeling”. Shirley never sang the song live that is why I made this clip with some of her most beautiful pictures. I wish everybody a great weekend! Pieter.
