On 27th October Music Ages are releasing a CD called ‘Shirley Bassey’ in the UK.  This was released earlier this year in Europe and was called ’4 Original 45 EP’s 16 Tracks’!  It’s a digipak and is really very good for those of you that collect Shirley’s CDs.  As you can see it features 2 EPs from her Philips recordings and 2 from her EMI (Columbia) days.  It shows the sleeve of a Spanish EP called ‘Goldfinger’ but it does not feature all the songs that was on that release.  ‘Strange How Love Can Be’ and ‘Who Can I Turn To’ are not included on the CD and are replaced by the tracks ”S Wonderful’ and ‘April In Paris’.

The sleeve has been made to look as though it has aged and the CD itself is printed as an old 45 vinyl record.  The quality is pretty good too.  I have a copy of it from Spain. It is available to pre-order.  HMV and Play appear to be the cheapest.

Prince Phillip’s 80th. birthday (part 1)

Concert for Duke of Edinburgh’s 80th Birthday. Part 1.

On May 24th, 2001 a concert took place in the Royal Albert Hall in London to mark the 80th Birthday of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, which is on June 10th. Among many other artists, Dame Shirley Bassey appeared, and performed three songs.

Shirley Bassey was introduced by former Scary Spice Girl, Mel B and opened with Goldfinger, then sang Something and then before performing Big Spender, she wished His Royal Highness a Happy Birthday and said how honoured she was to be asked to perform at tonight’s birthday celebrations.

After the evenings biggest applause Shirley led the line-up in singing Happy Birthday to Prince Philip. He walked onto the stage towards her, both arms outstretched and kissed her on the cheek as she curtseyed to him.
