Astrid’s Simply Bassey #54

Today I’ve chosen one of my all time favourite Shirley Bassey songs,
If I Never Sing Another Song, it’s so powerful and gets to the heart
every time!

With Shirley being worrying silent these days, I simply hope that the
song’s sentiment doesn’t now turn out to be a reality, but in any case
we’ll always have a great catalogue of material to enjoy forever.

  1. This is one of my favourite songs. Poignant, sentimental and alittle sad, but refecing on achievement and fame. I first heard it sung by the other great Welsh singer Dorothy Squires in concer at the London Palladium. (1975) Dorothy later released the song on her wonderful `rain, rain go away` album. Shirleys version came in 1976 on what is one of my favourite albus, when talking of original releases: `love,Life and feelings` (1976). But then this contaied `BORN TO LOSE` & `NATALI` as well. Additionally the coverhas Shirlet in the magnificent green gown with the hoos of pearls which must be one of Doug Darnell`s finest creations for her. Doug was also gown designer for Dorothy Squires. in 1980 Shirley reopened Londons`s Apolllo Victoria a seven night straight run. i heard the first note of `IF I NEVER SING ANOTHER SONG`and I
