All the photos that are posted here today are exclusive to The Bassey Blog.  These were taken at the concert by my very good friend André.  He took over 200 and I’m slowly working my way through them all.  I thank you André for taking these photos and allowing me to share them with all Shirley’s fans.

I hope you all enjoy seeing them.

  1. Dame Shirley – this is my sincere and heartfelt message to you. You were always the star, the biggest star, and the inspiration for so many people who wanted to achieve something with their lives. You are the living proof that when a person really, truly, knows what they want more than anything else in the world, and provided they have the drive, the guts, and the sheer unremitting determination to see it through no matter what, they will achieve it.
You wanted your success so much, and you made so many sacrifices to achieve it, and your achievements were magnificent. You didn’t just reach your goals, you surpassed them all, you shattered them. You were Shirley Bassey, the unsophisticated little girl from Tiger Bay, but you created the amazing person who became Dame Shirley Bassey the great superstar, the most loved and most glamorous of them all. You, Dame Shirley, are truly your own special creation. There has never been anybody like you.
But please let all of us, your admirers, keep intact all of our most cherished memories of you and of your magnificent performances over so many years – all the way from 1959’s As I Love You to 2009’s The Performance. Fifty years of wonderful memories of you for so many people all around the world.
What I am trying to say Dame Shirley is that maybe it’s time now to let go, while you are still at the very top of the tree. It’s time to let go and it’s time to find that special person to share the rest of your life with. The one you have wondered about and have talked about, the one and only special person who IS somewhere out there waiting for you.
You have given your all for your audience for over half a century, and you are still the great superstar, and that is how we want to remember you. Perhaps it’s time now for you to take the time for yourself that you have never been able to. You said that one day you wanted to find the real Shirley Bassey again – but to do that you have to let go of Dame Shirley Bassey, superstar.
So Shirley – go see those pyramids! You’ve truly earned the right to do so!

  2. I wasnt sure about the Roundhouse as a venue and what DSB would be like – but after seeing her and hearing this wonderful voice of hers I was amazed. Not bad for a Dame who is 72 years young. I liked The Performance of my life number and some of the others – but as I said in my last comment on the blog – these songs have to be made more comfortable for her to sing better – they will take time to come into her act – then I think she will definately do them justice – some nice songs, not the usual Bassey type numbers but its good to hear some new material and not all those compilations albums being re-released all the time, after all like myself and all the real Bassey fans we already own those in our collections. Will be interesting to see if a DVD will be released of the Roundhouse performance. Thanks to the Blog for some great photos too, keep up the great works guys!.

  3. David, these are absolutely GORGEOUS! And they capture The Dame in all her glory so well done Andre!! I especially love the one with the strap fallen down the arm!

    Peter.

  4. WOW ! – Is all I can say about Peter B comments regarding Dame Shirley – maybe time for her to bow out now and take some precious time for herself. As a lifelong fan since the 50s I totally agree what Peter B has written (and so well too!) – lets hope that Dame Shirley might even read some of these comments and take them on board. If (and its only an If!) she did decide to go into retirement – our lives will never be the same – but with all those marvellous memories now on CDs we can all re-live those fabulous performances in our own homes every single day – when we want to and with a front seat every time.

  5. When will I be able to see Dame Shirley in concert? I never saw her live and I would travel anywhere if I knew she had a concert.
