Astrid’s Simply Bassey #74

For this week I’ve decided to play Shirley Bassey’s version of All That Jazz, recorded in 1998 at the BBC for the programme “Viva Diva” – a lovely recording of a song never released on a CD.

Please could fans send me their suggestions for some songs for me to play. I’d love to be able to play some songs or versions of songs that mean special things for different people, and if you have a special story to share with it, I’d be more than glad to publish it alongside.

  2. Hello Astrid
I too as a (as you know) am a huuuuuge Bassey fan – thank you and everyone concerned with the great Bassey Blog for all your hard work compilations pictures that you have provided us Bassey fans with over all this time. I wonder if I may ask for a request – and that is the song “You Take My Breath Away” – Shirley really sings this most beautifully – and I would lkike to dedicate this to you and all the Bassey Blog team – and all Bassey fans out there. Thank you again.

    Love Michael X

  3. I love Shirley’s cover of “Baby I’m-A Want You” by Bread, on her album ‘Never Never Never’. I don’t know if she ever sang it live, or if there are any other versions besides this album. I have a special fondness for early 70s pop, including this soft-rock hit. I think that Shirley’s interpretation of the soft rock genre is wonderful.
