DSB in Yokohama and Chile -Part 1-

Dear blog viewers:

Last Monday I came back from my trip to Chile. I came back four days prior to the terrible earth quake you probably all heard of.

I was there for three weeks and visited also the city of Viña del Mar where Shirley performed in 1989 at the Viña del Mar Festival.

I met somebody there who could tell me a lot about the festival and he remembered Shirley’s performance very well.

Last Saturday, the day of the earth quake was the last day of the festival which is always held around this time of the year.

A friend of mine who worked for the Chilean tv. gave me a copy of Shirley’s performance in 1989. We already had a copy of that performance but this one had a much better quality, so I will upload it again to YouTube.

He also gave me a copy of a performance from August 1990 at the Prince Hotel in Yokohama, Japan.

At this moment I still don’t know how my friends in Chile are doing. Some of them are okay, others I have not heard from yet and some where not there at the moment because it is the end of the holidays and the summer there.

I wanted to make a report of my trip for the blog with everything concerning Shirley’s performance at the festival but until I know everybody is safe, I thought it might be better to share the “Yokohama” performance with you first.

Astrid’s Simply Bassey #94

Today I am playing one of my all time favourite Shirley Bassey songs.
From 1964 the song “Now”, often overlooked and such a wonderful and
uplifting song that I regularly play as it lifts my mood. I hope you
enjoy it.

This is my final Astrid’s Simply Bassey for a month as I am moving
from the south to the north of Germany. It’s going to be a frantic
time and I will be without an internet connection.

I look forward to posting another song in a month’s time and in the
meantime please send me any of your desired songs that you would like
to be played. I am now running out of song ideas and I rely on your
suggestions and anecdotes to keep this part of the blog going, so
please send me your ideas or suggestions so I can keep going! I’d be
happy to post them anonymously if you’d prefer.

Dame Shirley takes to the catwalk!

Astrid has once again come to our rescue and below is a small clip showing Dame Shirley on the catwalk.  Very special thanks Astrid. 

Dame Shirley took part in ‘Fashion For Relief Haiti’, an event organised by model Naomi Campbell.  She joined a host of celebrities at Somerset House on Thursday evening (18th February) and looked very glamorous as she strutted on the catwalk.  The event was held to raise funds for the victims of the Haitian earthquake.

Dame Shirley at the Brits.

Here is a small clip of Dame Shirley presenting Lily Allen with her award last night.  It is taken from German TV and special thanks to Astrid for this.  Shirley looks as stunning as ever.

 Pieter has also added a video clip of Shirley giving an interview after the event.  I think she found it all quite mad!!
