For today we have a request from Jonas. He asks for ‘Something’ on the Tom Jones Show from 1971. Jonas wrote:
Thank you for sharing your DSB videos, the recent Blog video of Shirley’s 70 birthday I had never seen before. I believe that most Shirley fans do also like Tom Jones and I saw your YouTube post of DSB singing Something on this show shortly before your channel was taken down.
I read that Shirley did also sing ‘The fool on the hill’ and a duet with Tom Jones which should sound great as they are two of the best singers of our time. Maybe you could share the Something video of the Tom Jones show on the blog again, it has become one of my favourite songs since I have seen DSB doing it live. I don’t know if you have the whole show, but if you happen to have the duet with Tom it would be amazing if you posted it.
Thank you and best wishes,
Jonas
Unfortunately we don’t have the duet with Tom Jones or the performance of ‘Fool on the hill’ but if you like to listen to the studio version CLICK HERE.

(From the George Webb collection)
The Fool On The Hill.
Written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney.
Released January 2nd, 1971 on a single (with What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life? on the B-side). The single reached chart position no. 48 in the UK. It was also on the The Shirley Bassey Singles Album in 1975 and in 1978 on the “25th Anniversary Album”. Shirley Bassey performed this song live in a Dutch TV special in 1971.
The song is available digitally remastered on CD collections, for example on the 1999 re-issue of the 1970 album Something.
Originally this was a Beatles song released first on their album “Magical Mystery Tour” in December 1967. This was the first Lennon & McCartney song by Shirley Bassey, but the first Beatles song had been Something in 1970. In 1968 this song was a place no. 6 in the US Billboard for “Sergio Mendes & Brazil ’66″ and his album with the title “Fool On The Hill” reached no. 3 in the album charts.
Lyrics:
Day after day
Alone on a hill
The man with the foolish grin is keeping perfectly still
But nobody wants to know him
They can see that he’s just a fool
And he never gives an answer
But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head
See the world spinning round
Well on the way
Head in a cloud
The man of a thousand voices talking perfectly loud
But nobody ever hears him
Or the sound he appears to make
And he never seems to notice
But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head
See the world spinning round
And nobody seems to like him
They can tell what he wants to do
And he never shows his feelings
But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head
See the world spinning round
Day after day
Fool on the hill
Day after day
Fool on the hill
Day after day
Fool on the hill
Day after day after day after day after day
