Astrid’s Simply Bassey #143

Today I’m responding to a request from Marie Esther, who asked that I
play a song from the album Shirley Bassey Sings The Songs of Andrew
Lloyd Webber.

I Don’t Know How To Love Him (from musical “Jesus Christ Superstar”)

I hope you enjoy my choice of song today.

I Don’t Know How To Love Him

The 1979 BBC-show -Part 3 (Last part)-

You can now watch the third and last part of one of the 1979 BBC-shows. Special guest Freddy Cole. Songs: ‘When you wish upon a star’ (Louis Amstrong), ‘Nobody does it like me’ & and ‘Something’. Below also a newspaper article from 1979 from the Evening Standard that I hope you enjoy reading.

A special note about the beautiful, blue dress the Dame wears while singing ‘Something’. This is what she had to say about the dress in the 1994 BBC-documentary ‘The Slate’:

“Here’s another one but I’m terrified of the snake ’cause it wraps around my neck and I always think it’s going to bite me so that doesn’t get worn too much. You see it goes around my neck … it is practically touches my boob I think … you see what I mean?  I don’t fancy being Cleopatra in this one.  I don’t want to die that way you know.  Well mind you if there was an ‘Anthony’ around I suppose I wouldn’t mind!”

Lyrics When you wish upon a star:

When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires
Will come to you

If your heart is in your dreams
No request is too extreme
When you wish upon a star
As dreamers do

Fate is kind
She brings to those who love
The sweet fulfillment of their secret longings
Like a boat out of the blue
Fate steps in and see’s you through

When you wished upon a star
Your dream comes true

(Chorus): Fate is kind
She brings to those who love.

The sweet fulfillment of their secret longings
Like a boat out of the blue
Fate steps in and see’s you through

When you wish upon a star
Your dream comes true.

THE END
