DAME SHIRLEY BASSEY took to the stage at the Classic Brit Awards on Thursday (12May11) to pay tribute to late JAMES BOND composer JOHN BARRY.
Barry, who wrote theme tunes for 11 Bond films including From Russia with Love and You Only Live Twice, suffered a fatal heart attack in January (11) - and he was posthumously honoured with the Outstanding Contribution To Music prize during the ceremony at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
Actress Virginia McKenna and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall were on hand to present the award, which was accepted by Barry’s lyricist pal Don Black.
Dame Shirley joined the tribute by performing the Barry title song she recorded for the 1964 Bond film Goldfinger.

Today we have part 4 of this great concert. Songs: ‘Dio come ti amo’, ’How do you keep the music playing?’ & ‘I (Who have nothing)’.
I also have a newspaper clip from the year 1992. There was only one I could find though and probably the tabloids came up with this one because there was not much going on with Dame Shirley, career wise, in 1992. One year later, 1993, was a very busy year for her. She got her CBE, released the album ‘Shirley Bassey sings the songs of Andrew Loydd Webber’ plus it was her 40th. year in show business.
