German Reader’s Digest 3CD Box Set
Reader’s Digest in Germany have released a 3CD set by Dame Shirley Bassey. Unfortunately only available to people who live in Germany this is really a very nice set. A friend of mine bought a copy which was being auctioned on eBay and as we do an internet site ‘Ultimate Collection’ together which lists all the CDs we know are available and which both or one of us have in our collections I was made aware of it. Obviously I wanted it and so thanks to Andre he was able to get me a copy through a friend of his who lives in Germany.
Titled ‘This Is My Life’ it’s a 3CD set containing 72 tracks but none are new to CD. It’s a very well presented set and on the whole the quality is excellent. The only complaint I have with it (apart from it only being available in Germany) is that for some strange reason four of the tracks have been speeded up. I’ve no idea why they have done this and it’s annoying espeially as one the tracks involved is ‘Davy’. This song is very rarely included on compilation CDs or sets so it’s very frustrating. Looking on the back at the inlay it looks as though the set was manufactured by EMI so they should have got it right.
Include with the set is a rather nice booklet. Naturally all the notes are in German but there are a couple of nice photographs. At the present time there are no new releases on the horizon. It’s nice to know there is something out there though.

Hi regarding the German Readers Digest set, it is indeed a nice collection, I particularly like the booklet layout, however I must point out that although the label has EMI on it, it isn’t produced by them, they are only the licence holder. I have no idea why the tracks were speeded up, I can only imagine problems with the person doing the digital copying from the German masters, The ‘Shirley’ CD set from UK EMI is still set for release, we are still experiencing some legal issues from the USA, but I am confident you’ll be seeing it soon.

thank you Martyn, this set should sell well. I was at the Concert in 1973 so that will be special. I also want `runaway` in particular. Maybe it should be released in january at the start of Shirleys 60th year as an artist
