It’s great to look back on Dame Shirley’s earlier career, and recall those stunning evenings.
Here’s a delightful message from David Yule in Glasgow, complete with pictures from the programme:-
Just thought I would write a little note to you and mention a lovely evening I had in 1972 when a very polished Shirley Bassey (not a Dame then) appeared at the Kelvin Hall Arena in Glasgow.
It was not a huge arena, in fact quite the opposite. She wore that stunning green dress, with the beads at the back, the same one she wore that year at the Royal Albert Hall, London. She sang all of the songs that she sung at the Royal Albert Hall and at the end she received, as usual, a standing ovation.
I was a lot younger then and when no one was at the front of the stage, I may add it was not a high stage, I walked down and was privileged to shake and kiss her hand. I have never seen her looking as good as she did on that night and her voice was above praise.
A truly great star in thoses early years as she is today.
Thanks for a great blog.
