It’s been a great resource for fans for many years.

Thanks Tony and congratulations on the board.

Count Basie. His band was the best.

I loved his simple “tinkling” on the keys that was highly effective.

Sonny Payne, the effortless drummer in this 1962 performance of ‘Corner Pocket’, was a superb musician.

As were all these jazz players. Enjoy two (Non-DSB) videos:

Followed by this undated Ed Sullivan Show, Count Basie and his Orchestra blazes its way through the composition ‘Edward’.

Thanks to Gary

William “Count” Basie (1904 – 1984) was an American jazz pianist, bandleader, and composer.

Regarded as one of the most important jazz bandleaders of his time, Basie led his popular Count Basie Orchestra for almost fifty years.

The celebrity’s celebrity

Chatting with HM The Queen after the Royal Variety Performance

DSB has met a phenomenal number of other celebrities during her career.

In January’s blog alone we have seen her captured on film with Tommy Cooper, Jack Jones, Paul Daniels, Frank Ifield, Elton John, Mike Dixon, The Arctic Monkeys, Joan Collins, Nikki and Been from Never The Bride, Blake, Liz Brewer, Christopher Biggins, Princess Beatrice, Richard Nixon, Dean Martin, Cliff Richard … and possibly more but I can’t be bothered to look further 🙂

That’s just the tip of the showbiz iceberg.

To celebrate these celebs, a mini-series of old photos is planned over the next week or so.

Shirley with Bing Crosby, Sophie Tucker, Morecambe and Wise, Alma Cogan, Count Basie, Lena Horne and more.

If you have any photo of DSB with other stars, please send it in.
