“The new recording of Never the Bride’s soulful pop ballad “The Living Tree,” done up in brassy Goldfinger-style with a piercing electric-guitar solo, is so good one wishes for all-new material.”

Thanks to Peter who adds:

“I second wanting an album of all new material!!”

“Bassey’s interview with host Scott Simon will air on NPR’s Weekend Edition this coming Saturday.”

The Rainbow Club

1957 and DSB revisits the youth club she loved

“The Rainbow Club” – established in the Tiger Bay Cardiff docks area, was a pioneering after-school activity club that promoted participation in the performing arts. Shirley Bassey being one of its first members. It helped build her confidence.

Here is an interesting clip explaining the Rainbow Club:

27th November 1959 Shirley Bassey who is appearing at the New Theatre all week visited the Rainbow Club in Bute Street. Here she is pictured looking at some of the paintings by the youngsters.

3rd September 1957 Shirley Bassey sings to members of the Bute Street Rainbow Club who welcomed her to the warehouse at Cardiff Docks yesterday where she took part in a TV show.

1st September 1957 Shirley Bassey signs autographs for fans in Cardiff today.
