The Purple Rose Ball Gown

From the Gowns Guru

“Forgot to say that the gown worn at the Rose Ball (purple) is the one DSB wore when she received her ‘star’ off Chris Tarrant in 2005.

American review

Cannes 1998

Another good review from the States:

SHIRLEY BASSEY “Get the Party Started” (Lock, Stock & Barrel/Decca)

Sassy Bassey is still going strong at 71, as evidenced by this (kinda) new album. “Kinda” because the CD features a hodgepodge of new songs _ a cover of Pink’s “Get the Party Started” that outclasses the original and the terrific, lavish ballad “The Living Tree” that showcases her powerful vocals _ plus modern, loungey remixes of old favorites.

There’s “I (Who Have Nothing),” “What Now My Love” and a version of the Gloria Gaynor disco classic “I Will Survive” that takes the high hat beat out and puts the track directly into James Bond-age. Speaking of 007, Bassey has the distinction of being the only artist to sing multiple Bond themes (“Goldfinger,” “Diamonds Are Forever” and “Moonraker”).

“Get the Party Started” is high camp, to be sure, but a spirited good time, too.

Pod Picks: “The Living Tree,” “Get the Party Started.”

The Dame of your life

Will DSB go from Number 3 to Number 1 this week?

Even if she doesn’t, Number 3 is a huge achievement.

As in previous weeks, check the new Billboard Dance chart on Thursday or Friday:
