A thank you for the fans‏

Dear Peggy

Please could you post this message on your Blog? I would just like to thank everyone who sponsored me and sent me good wishes for my charity ‘Race For Life’ to raise vital funds for Cancer Research. The event has taken place and the heavy rain went off just in time for it starting – although I am not insinuating that I can control the great British weather like Dame Shirley can!!
People have been so kind and generous – even some lovely Bassey fans whom I have never met. Thanks to them I have raised £405 so far, but I still have a few donations to collect from work colleagues so the total will rise.
Many thanks once again to all!

Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading independent organisation dedicated to cancer research. We support research into all aspects of cancer through the work of more than 4,250 scientists, doctors and nurses. Over the past 10 years alone, thousands of lives have been saved through earlier detection and improved treatments. But, much work remains to be done if we are to achieve our aim of beating cancer.

Charity Registration No 1089464

Events like Race for Life are an important way in which Cancer Research UK is able to fund its life-saving work into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer. By sponsoring me now you could help more people survive cancer.

 Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me – Cancer Research UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, at least an extra 25% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you when you tick the Gift Aid box.

 So please sponsor me now!

 Many thanks for your support – together we will beat cancer.

Lyrics

The trouble with hello is goodbye:

We wandered through the summertime

And drifted into fall;

We never thought of winter at all.

How foolishly we tossed away

The buttercups, the time –

Who’d have thought

We’d have no more songs to sing,

Hills to climb?

We summered in each other’s arms

And slumbered in the glow;

We never heard the whisper of snow.

But summer’s not forever more,

No matter how we try –

The trouble with hello is goodbye

We never heard the whisper of snow.

But summer’s not forever more,

No matter how we try –

The trouble with hello is goodbye

‘The trouble with hello is goodbye’ is from the 1974 Album ‘Nobody does it like me’.

It was released as the b-side of the single: ‘When you smile’.

Re-released and digitally remastered as a double cd: Nobody does it like me/Love, life and feelings in 2006 for Beat Goes On Records.

The original album was for United Artists Records where Dame Shirley had a contract in the seventies and recorded two albums each year.

Unlike DSB, Neil will not helicopter to Glasto

As previously publicised, Neil Diamond is taking DSB’s place at Glastonbury next Sunday.

But he told an interviewer: “I won’t be coming in by helicopter, I don’t trust them.”

Fans remember how Shirley was left shaken last year when her helicopter crash-landed in Surrey as it was taking her home after her triumphant performance.
