Newsflash: Dame Shirley Bassey has a soft spot for Jamie Cullum. It’s true. When Lord Harry Dalmeny began his auction at the Climate Group’s 10th anniversary dinner – hosted by Prince Albert II of Monaco at Hôtel de Paris – he barely had time to finish announcing the first lot – offering one lucky guest the chance to have a private piano lesson with the musician, before Dame Shirley held her arm high and grabbed it quicker than you can say ‘Radio 2 jazz’. Luckily, for the losers, Paloma Faith belted out tracks from her new album, while a tasty supper of lobster, asparagus risotto and mascarpone icecream was wheeled out. Oh, and a packet was raised for the Climate Group and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation in the process.
