FROM THE ARCHIVE 351 -1984-

And I Love You So from the 1984 album I Am What I Am. For a previous post CLICK HERE. Below also my favourite live version of this song from the 1988 French TV show Le Grand Echiquier.

Lyrics:

And I love you so
The people ask me how
How I’ve lived till now
I tell them I don’t know
I guess they understand
How lonely life has been
But life began again
The day you took my hand

And yes, I know
How lonely life can be
The shadows follow me
And the night won’t set me free
But I don’t let the evening get me down
Now that you’re around me

And you loved me too
Your thoughts are just for me
You set my spirit free
I’m happy that you do
The book of life is brief
And once a page is read
All but love is there
That is my belief

And yes, I know
How loveless life can be
The shadows follow me
And the night won’t set me free
But I don’t let the evening get me down
Now that you’re around me

And I love you so
The people ask me how
How I’ve lived till now
I tell them I don’t know

  1. Gorgeous! Her voice vibrates with emotion. A lyric that could be overly-sentimental but DSB elevates into a moving, heartfelt love letter. One of her legendary vocal performances. She’s never hit it wrong — the original studio recording, the live recordings are all fabulous — but this my favorite recording of AILYS. Thanks for highlighting, Pieter.
