FROM THE ARCHIVE 358 -1991-

Wind Beneath My Wings

Written by Larry J. Henley / Jeff Alan Silbar
(sometimes the name L. Harry is mentioned).

Released on the 1991 album Keep The Music Playing.

The song is part of the soundtrack of the movie “Beaches” of 1988, sung by Bette Midler. In 1989 she reached No. 1 in the US Billboard with this song. Originally a minor hit for Lee Hazelwood in the mid 1970’s in America. Sung by many artists before Bette Midler, including Sheena Easton in 1982 and Roger Whittaker 1982.

Following a plot summary for the movie “Beaches” from the net: When the New York child performer CC Bloom (Bette Midler) and San Francisco rich kid Hillary (Barbara Hershey) meet in a holiday resort in Atlantic City, it marks the start of a lifetime friendship between them. The two keep in touch through letters for a number of years until Hillary, now a successful lawyer moves to New York to stay with struggling singer CC. The movie shows the various stages of their friendship and their romances including their love for the same man.

Sheet Music 1991 The Wind Beneath My Wings

Lyrics:

It must have been cold there in my shadow
To never have sunlight on your face
You were content to let me shine
You always walked a step behind
I was the one with all the glory
While you were the one with all the strength
Only a face without a name
I never once heard you complain

Did you ever know that you’re my hero
And everything I would like to be
I can fly higher than an eagle
‘Cause you are the wind beneath my wings

It might have appeared to go unnoticed
But I have it all here in my heart
I want you to know, I know the truth
I would be nothing with out you

Did you ever know that you’re my hero
And everything I would like to be
I can fly higher than an eagle
‘Cause you are the wind beneath my wings

Did you ever know that you’re my hero
And everything I would like to be
I can fly higher than an eagle
‘Cause you are the wind beneath my wings
You are the wind beneath my wings
You are the wind beneath my wings

  1. Thank you Pieter. I really enjoyed this posting. DSB sounds exquisite singing that and each song, and I love her stylish gowns. She looks really gorgeous. I wish she would be invited to a New York City mainstream show, and sing some of these great songs.
