Rai uno -The Italian television performances- part 7

From 1968 to 1971 during her marriage to her Italian husband, Shirley Bassey did a few performances for the Italian television.

Today the first performance in English from 1968: Strangers In The Night.

Strangers in the night exchanging glances,
Wond’ring in the night what were the chances
We’d be sharing love before the night was through.

Something in your eyes was so inviting,
Something in your smile was so exciting,
Something in my heart told me I must have you.

Strangers in the night,
Two lonely people, we were strangers in the night.
Up to the moment when we said our first hello, little did we know.
Love was just a glance away, a warm embracing dance away.

Ever since that night we’ve been together,
Lovers at first sight, in love forever,
It turned out so right for strangers in the night.

  1. Ha ha! She’s obviously lip-synching this one. No truly live vocal performance by DSB could be so restrained and sedate. She is a roaring, thundering dynamo when she opens her mouth to sing. But I like this recording. I like when she pulls back a little to sing “pretty.”

  2. Welcome back Pieter. Glad you are better! Lovely performance by DSB but I agree DNLTblog, looks like she was lip-synching. Seems she was very happy with Sergio and her family in Italy judging by the big smile in the above picture.

  3. Yea yeah yes yes and ok. Maybe The Great Dame did lipsync this one for a change. Sometimes these powerhouse singers like Mariah Carey, Oleta Adams, Celine Dion have gotta give those vocal cords a break. But compared to alot of “pop sensations” of yestur-year &especially today, Basseys always been live and in top form. Good effort on the song thats ultimately always gonna be Frank Sinatra. But you couldn’t expect anything less. After all this the Best vocalist from the 20th century still going strong, so join Emmit Junior and shout—-LONG LIVE THE DAME !
