Get The Party Started

In September 2006 Dame Shirley Bassey was the star of the Marks & Spencer Christmas TV commercial. The commercial was a huge hit with viewers and resulted in very successful sales for Marks & Spencer.

Get The Party StartedFor the commercial, Shirley sang a reworked version of Pink’s ‘Get The Party Started’ which proved so popular that she went on to record it a few months later as the title track of her stunning new album.

Shirley opened with Get The Party Started at her appearance at the Glastonbury Festival in June 2007 accompanied by Catherine Feeney and Nikki Lamborn of Never The Bride, who produced the album and were undoubtedly responsible for the party’s success. The album went straight into the top ten and gave Shirley her highest charting album since the 1970s.

Here are some newspaper clips of the making of a great commercial.

  1. Already more than ten years ago that she did this great commercial for M&S.
What was it great and festive and hugely surprising to admire Dame Shirley in this role! The song is still great! I remember I was at Sydney, Australia at that time to celebrate new years eve and when they start the great firework at Sydney Harbour they use the music by Dame Shirley, Get the party started!
It was so special, so particular to hear her fantastic voice, so loud in the open air that night !! A real party started !!
Thank you so much once again to bring us to this particular happen! 🌺

  2. Thank you Pieter. Very interesting articles and I enjoyed the videos. DSB looks lovely in the beautiful red gown. I have to say that I prefer the song The Living Tree to Get The Party Started. Thank you.
