On Monday, February 24 2014 We Got Music was released and later that year Dame Shirley Bassey’s  last album Hello Like Before was released. On this album was also a different (bonus) version of this song.

The song did not became a hit although it had much potential to be a one. Probably due to bad promotion and the fact it was not released on a physical CD but only available for download.

We Got Music was released later that year as part of a medley called ‘Dame Of Dance Mix’ on a collection CD with remixes. You can listen to it by clicking the player below.

The 77-year-old Welsh superstar was coaxed out of semi-retirement to record a Latin floor filler with renowned dance producer Dario G.

The DJ, who scored worldwide success in the late ‘90s with euphoric trance hits Sunchyme and Carnaval De Paris, has enticed Tiger Bay’s most famous former resident to lend her voice to We Got Music – a sultry party tune.

Dario, real name Paul Spencer, managed to work his magic and persuade Dame Shirley Bassey to record her first new work since 2009‘s The Performance – an album on which she collaborated with a host of stars such as Gary Barlow, Pet Shop Boys and Manic Street Preachers.

For Paul, who is from Crewe but has Welsh family on his mother’s side, having the opportunity to work with one of the greatest singers of all time was obviously a career highlight – although he confesses he played it down for the sake of his own sanity.

Flying out to the playboy’s paradise of Monte Carlo to meet Dame Shirley, the pair rehearsed in the opulent surrounds of the stunning opera house, which looks out on the French Riviera, before recording the track at nearby studio.

“You always have ideas of which people you would love to work with and I asked a German friend to make some suggestions and he said Shirley Bassey,” recalled Paul. “I’d already written this song called We Got Music and I thought the blend of Dario G and Dame Shirley was a mouthwatering prospect, so I went in search of her.

“I went out to meet her in Monte Carlo and we hit it off straight away. We rehearsed at the opera house and recorded nearby.

“I was driven around Monte Carlo and looked after wonderfully, it was fabulous being in such a stunning location and having a grand piano in the opera house yards away from the sea, but at the end of the day it was all about the music.

“I’ve played in front of five people in a pub in Aberdare in 1992 when I was in a band called Rhythm Eternity with a guy from Llanelli, so I do appreciate the difference, but I was there to do a professional job.”

He does admit to wondering how the superstar diva would respond when he showed her how he worked, but he says the Cardiff native couldn’t have been more enthusiastic – even if he was treading carefully around her.

“Because my orchestra is in my laptop it’s quite different from being backed by 70 people and there’s little old me coming up with this music on a computer.

“For somebody who’s recorded in the heyday of orchestras and those iconic James Bond themes, these are all things that go through your mind.

“So, yes it was unreal at times, but she’s human like the rest of us, she’s a singer, but there are certain boundaries to what you can say to Dame Shirley – you can’t say ‘can you sing a bit more like Kylie on the verse please!’ You have to respect her incredible history.”

“Dame Shirley is an incredible performer and an incredible person. She’s got this stunning back catalogue that she’s created. You never think of her getting old. She’s evergreen. She’s looking great and there’s plenty of music left in her yet.”

Lyrics:

Roll the dice
Spin the wheel, relax
It’s not big deal, attack
Sustain, don’t delay
Release your mind, it’s time for play
Temperature’s hot and rising
I think you know what’s on my mind
Dance! There’s no tomorrow
I can see the look in your eyes…

We got people
We got music
Lots of loving
Lots of dancing
Don’t be shy, just feel the rhythm!
Maybe tonight there’s romancing
We got people
We got music
Lots of loving
Lots of dancing
Don’t be shy, just feel the rhythm!
Maybe tonight there’s romancing

Da Da Da-da Da
Da Da-daa We got music
We got music…

A photograph, shows no reserve
Bid, offer, with no return
We got the recipe
Tonight, we’ll make history
Role the dice Keep Spinning that wheel
Take a chance!
This time for real
Attack, sustain, don’t delay
Release your mind, it’s time for play
Temperatures keep risin
I think I know what’s on your mind
Dance! There’s no tomorrow
I can see the look in your eyes…
We got people
We got music
Lots of loving
Lots of dancing
Don’t be shy, just feel the rhythm!
Maybe tonight there’s romancing
We got people
We got music
Lots of loving
Lots of dancing
Don’t be shy, just feel the rhythm!
Maybe tonight there’s romancing
Da Da Da-da
Da Da Da-daa When we go, we go all night!
We feel so, we feel so right!
Cause it’s our, cause it’s our life!
Come and join the party,
make it last forever
When we go, we go all night!
We feel so, we feel so right!
Cause it’s our, cause it’s our life!
Come and join the party,
make it last forever
We got music
We got music…
We got music..
Da Da Da-da
Da Da Da-daa We got people
We got music
Lots of loving
Lots of dancing
Don’t be shy, just feel the rhythm!
Maybe tonight there’s romancing
We got people
We got music
Lots of loving Lots of dancing
Don’t be shy, just feel the rhythm!
Maybe tonight there’s romancing
