front

You Take My Heart Away was recorded for the 1977 album You Take My Heart Away and is from the soundtrack of the movie ‘Rocky’ which came out in 1976. The words and the music are written by Bill Conti. Below two videos with live versions of the song. One is from a 1979 BBC show and the other is  from a concert in Sydney from 1978.

(Part of the article): The UK proved to be a legacy music home for the Rocky ballad when a year after its release Welsh singer Shirley Bassey recorded “You Take My Heart Away” as the title track of her 22nd studio album. Bassey, whose powerful voice was behind the themes of three James Bond films, dramatically changed the tenor of the song to a pop style that served as the opening number during her ’70s-era concerts.

Lyrics:

Touch me,
take me in your arms,
shelter me from harm,
let me love you for a million years or more,
I never felt this way before,
before your kiss,
you take my heart away, away.

Love me, love me from your heart,
let us never part,
bring me all the dreams you thought would never be,
we’ll make them all reality,
just you and me,
you take my heart away, away.

You’re my dream come true,
baby I love you,
I confess I need ya,
I will never leave you alone,
oh I love you true,
my whole world is you,
I confess I need ya,
and I will never leave you alone.
You take my heart away, away.

Touch me,
take me in your arms,
shelter me from harm,
let me love you for a million years or more,
I never felt this way before,
before your dreams,
you take my heart away, away.

Love me, love me from your heart,
let us never part,
bring me all the dreams you thought would never be,
we’ll make them all reality,
just you and me,
you take my heart away, away.

You’re my dream come true,
baby I love you,
I confess I need ya,
I will never leave you alone,
oh I love you true,
my whole world is you,
I confess I need ya,
and I will never leave you alone.
You take my heart away, away.

You take my heart away, away.

  1. Thank you Pieter. I enjoyed this imnensely. I enjoyed the article about the writing, and recording of the title song. The performances by DSB on her TV broadcast, and Mr. Legrand are beyond outstanding. The Kool and the Gang song, well all I can say is I bet a large number of children were conceived because of it..LOL! DSB is a world musical and entertainment treasure. Also I love the gown DSB wears in the first video, a fanorite. You made my day really joyous Pieter. Thank you.
