DSB Gives Award to Pioneering Heart Surgeons at NHS Heroes Ceremony

Dame Shirley Bassey and Lord Robert Winston presented a special NHS Heroes Award last night to two pioneering surgeons for their life saving work on heart transplants.

Steven Tsui and Stephen Large were given the Pioneering Hero Award after their work made it possible to restart a heart, allowing more people on the donor register to receive transplants.

Mr Steven Tsui added: "“It is a real honour to receive the NHS Pioneering Hero Award. However, this is just the beginning. We have much to do to establish a DCD heart transplant programme across the whole of the UK and across the world." #NHS70 @NHSHeroes #DCDheart

Dame Shirley was among celebrities attending the NHS Heroes Awards event at London’s Park Lane Hilton, which ITV are televising on Monday 21st May at 8.30pm.
