Today part 3 of the Best of Shirley Bassey from BBC- 4. Again three clips. Songs: This Is My Life, Kiss Me Honey, Honey Kiss me & Something. Once more the BBC didn’t get the facts right as they said This Is My Life was never released as a single.

The year 1999 was a year full of highlights. The highlight was of course that Shirley was made a Dame but she had to keep it a secret till the year 2000 when she received the gong from Queen Elizabeth. Also there was the world rugby cup in her hometown Cardiff and a tour of Australia and the Far East and she revealed her wax statue at Madame Tussaud’s.
Shirley
Music written by Alvin Leroy Homes, and words by Al Stillman.
Released 1966 on the album I’ve Got A Song For You and on a single. The song is available digitally remastered on the CD collection Bassey – The EMI/UA Years.
This song was specially written for Shirley Bassey, and a firm favourite in her live stage performances over many years. The same composers Stillman and Homes also wrote the album title song “I’ve Got A Song For You” for Shirley.
Lyrics
Shirley doesn’t feel too happy
Shirley doesn’t feel to gay
Something has been worrying Shirley
For many a lonely day
Shirley wakes up to early
Future looking so dim
‘Cause someone doesn’t love Shirley
The way that she loves him
Shirley wakes up to early
Future looking so dim
‘Cause someone doesn’t love Shirley
The way that she loves him
Today we go back to the year 1998 but first the latest news: Earlier yesterday we heard that Dame Shirley Bassey won’t attend the Queen’s 70th. Jubilee unfortunately.
In 1998 there was the much published court case of her former assistant Hilary Levy. Of all the articles that were published about the case the one below from the Evening Standard is the only plausible one. At the bottom of the page an interesting article from Record Collector.
