James Bond 50th. anniversary

The year 2012 marked the 50th. anniversary of James Bond. On BBC 4 was a celebration of 50 years of James Bond.
First there was a documentary about John Barry from 2000 and after that a gala from the Royal Festival Hall in London.
All the James Bond song were featured by a male and a female singer and a fabulous orchestra. The female singer performed Goldfinger and Diamonds Are Forever. Needless to say that the end note was not what we are used to when Goldfinger is being sung by Dame Shirley. A Tweet said: Some woman is currently killing James Bond songs on BBC4 right now!!: oh Shirley Bassey won’t be best pleased!!

After the gala a special of all the James Bond songs performed by the original artists. I made a compilation of the John Barry documentary and the special of the James Bond songs.

In the year 1995 this wonderful TV special was recorded and broadcast on ITV and released on VHS in 1996. Below you can watch all the newspaper articles about the show and watch the video including the bonus track (Tonight I Gave) The Greatest Performance Of My Life plus a report from fan Hilary Finney who was present at the recording.
A few other highlights that year were the release of Shirley Bassey Sings The Movies and we saw a spectacular open air concert that summer when she performed at Cardiff Castle.
