(Non-DSB) Katherine Jenkins wins Award for a 2nd year

The Classical BRIT Awards – the Oscars of the classical music world – were presented this week at a gala ceremony at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

Katherine Jenkins won the Album of the Year, voted for by Classic FM listeners, for Living A Dream.

Superstar tenor Placido Domingo received the lifetime achievement award and the Critics’ Prize for his recording of Tristan and Isolde.

Visit Classic FM for news, streaming radio, TV and more. No DSB though:

Katherine is a friend and admirer of DSB. Recently, she was in ITV1’s ‘Another Audience With’ show, and asked Shirley a question. They were both on the 2005 Royal Variety Performance. KJ also attended the Diamonds Ball in Cardiff and sang beautifully in tribute to a beaming Shirley in HER audience.

We chatted with Katherine, and she’s as nice as you can imagine. An angel in every way.

…and another link with Shirley is that they are (in case you hadn’t noticed) Welsh!

I hope Katherine won’t mind me copying her lovely message to fans dated 5th May:

“Hiya everyone!
Oh my goodness, I’m absolutely over the moon! Last night was a truly wonderful night… I was sure that there was no chance I could win it 2 years running and so I was completely gobsmacked when I heard my name. I burst into tears as soon as I saw my Mum’s face and then I had to make my speech which was quite hard as I was more emotional the second time around!! All the family were there from Wales again with their banners & Welsh flags and afterwards we all went to the Universal Party to celebrate!
I am so very happy today.. I don’t think it’s really sunk in yet that I now have two Brits and I have to say a HUGE, MASSIVE THANK YOU to you all for voting for me. You have made this happen and so I dedicate it to you all!
Sending you lots of love and kisses,
Katherine xxx”

More about Barnardo’s

Further to yesterday’s ‘STOP PRESS’, here’s another link about Shirley’s current support for Barnardo’s adoption campaign. A wonderful charity and a worthy campaign.

Celebrating a year at the Children’s Hospital for Wales

Since it opened on St David’s Day 2005, a world class facility for sick children is benefiting young patients, including the best care for cancer victims. Up till then, Wales was the only country in Europe that didn’t have a hospital for children.
Shirley helped get the project up and running, and donated half of the £250k gowns auction proceeds. The Diamonds Ball was another fundraising event in September 2004. For my reports on the Christie’s auction and the glamorous Ball, please visit the archives at SongsofShirleyBassey.co.uk

Shirley has visited the wards, sitting on the floor and playing with the youngsters. Not very diva-esque but she is great with kids, including her own adored grandchildren.

For more information please visit the NOAH’S ARK Appeal (the fundraising organisation for the hospital):
There’s a current appeal for unwanted mobile phones and cartridges. Please help if you can.

And Shirley’s generosity continues, this time she has donated clothes to Barnardo’s to help promote their campaign to increase adoption.
