Chris Rea passes away at the age of 74

Yesterday we heard the very sad new about the passing of singer and songswriter Chris Rea at the age of 74.

The Middlesbrough-born musician was behind many great songs, including the festive classic, ‘Driving Home for Christmas’. A statement, provided on behalf of Rea’s wife and two children, said: “It is with immense sadness that we announce the death of our beloved Chris. He passed away peacefully in hospital earlier today following a short illness, surrounded by his family.”

Next year marks the 30th anniversary of his film ‘La Passione’, in which Dame Shirley Bassey appeared and sang two songs: ‘La Passione’ and ‘Shirley, Do You Own A Ferrari?’

Below, a video featuring the two songs, the making of the film, the London Film Festival premiere, which Shirley attended with three of her grandsons, and an interview with Chris Rea and Shirley Bassey.
