This week I went through the BBC shows from 1979 as they were shown on TV in the USA. They are slightly different and have some songs that we have never seen and others taken out. Here is the first of 4 songs that I want to showcase on the blog – Daybreak. This sensational song was filmed and recorded at Dunn’s River Falls in Jamaica and was originally by Barry Manilow, I hope you enjoy it.
Below a beautiful picture of a gorgeous Dame Shirley Bassey that popped up in a lot of articles about the 1979 BBC shows over the years and I was never able to place it but know it is obvious where it came from. (Special thanks to Susan). So let’s hope if these shows ever get released on DVD this unseen material will be included!
Lyrics:
I’m singin’ to the world, it’s time we let the spirit come in
Let it come on in
I’m singin’ to the world, everybody’s caught in the spin
Look at where we’ve been
We’ve been runnin’ around, year after year
Blinded with pride, blinded with fear
But it’s daybreak, if you wanna believe
It can be daybreak, ain’t no time to grieve
Said it’s daybreak if you’ll only believe
And let it shine, shine, shine
All around the world (sing it to the world, sing, sing it to the world, sing, sing)
Singin’ to the world, what’s the point in puttin’ it down?
So much love to share
I’m singin’ to the world, don’t you see it all comes around?
The feeling’s everywhere
We’ve been closin’ our eyes, day after day
Covered in clouds, losin’ our way
But it’s daybreak
If you wanna believe, it can be daybreak
Ain’t no time to grieve
Said it’s daybreak, if you’ll only believe
And let it shine, shine, shine
All around the world
Yes, and it’s daybreak
If you wanna believe, it can be daybreak
Ain’t no time to grieve
Said it’s daybreak, if you’ll only believe
And let it shine, shine, shine
All around the world (let’s sing, sing it to the world)
Let it shine, shine, shine
All around the world.
