Today some newspaper clips from 1977. Strangely enough there is not much news from that year. Dame Shirley was on tour that year and released her album You take My Heart Away.

Following on from the Happy Birthday Shirley series, an interesting story from Neil
During the show Dame Shirley’s dress was cut up and Neil explained that it was auctioned at the Hilton Hotel on Park Lane on July 18th 1999 by actor Gordon Kaye (of “Allo Allo” fame). It was a fundraising evening by the famed “Water Rats” organization. It was called “A Night Of Knights” and the top table consisted of such luminaries as Dame Very Lynn, Dame Thora Hird, Sir John Mills, Sir Derek Jacobi and Sir Nigel Hawthorne to name a few…and they all signed the back of the presentation!
Neil said “‘I bought it from a lovely man called Gerry Palmer who said he wanted it to go to a good home, I happily obliged. Gerry was delighted with it`s new look and said I had done Shirley proud!”
Thanks to Neil for sharing this wonderful story

Showtime -Bassey’s Time-
In a cabaret setting, guest performers from Britain and the Continent join guest hosts in London on a series of international playbills. Shelley Berman introduces England’s Matt Monro and Wales’s Shirley Bassey. Shirley Bassey performs two songs. The show was recorded in Great Britain and broadcast on June 11th. 1968. With special thanks to Neil for this extraordinary video. Shirley Bassey sings two songs from the album Broadway Bassey’s Way: Come Back To Me & If Ever I Would Leave You.
Lyrics Come Back To Me:
Hear my voice where you are
Take a train, steal a car
Hop a freight, grab a star, come back to me
Catch a plane, catch a breeze
On your hands, on your knees
Swim or fly, only please, come back to me
On a mule, in a jet
With your hair in a net
In a towel wringing wet
I don’t care, this is where you should be
From the hills, from the shore
Ride the wind to my door
Turn the highway to dust
Break the law if you must
Move the world, only just come back to me
Blast you hide, hear me call
Must I fight City Hall?
Here and now, damn it all, come back to me
What on earth must I do
Scream and yell till I’m blue
Curse your soul, when will you come back to me?
Have you gone to the moon or the corner saloon?
And to wreck and to ruin
I don’t care this is where you should be
In a crate or a trunk
On a horse or a drunk
In a Rolls or a van
Wrap yourself in saran
Anyway that you can
Come back to me
Come Back to me
Come Back to me
Lyrics If Ever I Would Leave You:
If ever I would leave you, it wouldn’t be in summer
How I’d leave in summer, I never will know
Your hair streaked with sunlight, your lips red as flame
Your face with a luster that puts gold to shame
But if I’d ever leave you, it wouldn’t be in autumn
How I’d leave in autumn, I never will know
I’ve seen how you sparkle when fall nips the air
I’ll know you in autumn and I must be there
And could I leave you running merrily through the snow
Or on a wintry evening when you catch the fire’s glow
If ever I would leave you, it wouldn’t be in springtime
Knowing how in spring I’m bewitched by you so
Oh, no, not in springtime, summer, winter, or fall
No never could I leave you at all
