FB_IMG_1684959408858Yesterday there was the very sad news Tina Turner passed away in Switzerland after a long illness.

Dame Shirley commented on Facebook and Instagram:

Tina and I were friends during the golden age of Pop, Rock & Roll! She really gave it her everything and was a fantastic performer. I’m deeply saddened to hear of her passing. My condolences to her family and friends. May she rest in peace.

  1. Tina was a queen. According to Eddy Armani, DSB greeted Tina by saying “my sister.” Kindred in many ways, both knew how to electrify an audience and leave them begging for more. RIP, Queen Tina.

  2. Yes Bassey and Tina were pals. I remember on a
Bassey video, I think it’s called “Divas are forever” Shirley commented about Tina’s version of a James Bond theme song she’d done called “Golden Eye” and felt Tina could’ve gone in a different range or something.
But Yes that was a big shock in the loss of Tina Turner – the true Queen of a funky kind of Soulful Rock. Her voice like Bassey was sooooo distinctive for sure, you always instantly know these two voices. In an interview Gale King did after she flew all the way from America to Switzerland to see her at home, a few years back was very revealing. She’d already gone through a few serious health battles, that a lot of us didn’t know. But Tina was very content not taking the stage again.
It was such an honor for Tina when both Gale King and her buddy Oprah Winfrey escorted Tina to see and meet the cast of a big play about Tina’s life on Broadway in Manhattan. You could see she was a little frail then and moving cautiously. But until her great resurrection return to rock under Heaven, we will have her on video or memory as I still do from a thunderous concert at Madison Square Garden – I only heard about at the very last minute and got to see by luck. She was riding high off her “Break Every Time” Lp and I’m telling you, in those Hiiiiiiiigh Heels the woman danced, pranced and brought down the house – not stumbling once ! Tina Turner was “Simply The Best !”
