You Don’t Bring Me Flowers

Another song from the 1979 Show that was not shown on TV in Europe. It is the duet Shirley Bassey did with Tony Monopoly You Don’t Bring Me Flowers. The duet has a hilarious ending. She also sang this duet with Robert Goulet in her 1980 Special for ITV ‘A special lady’. To watch the video CLICK HERE

You don’t bring me flowers
You don’t sing me love songs
You hardly talk to me anymore
When you come through the door
At the end of the day

I remember when
You couldn’t wait to love me
Used to hate to leave me
Now after lovin’ me late at night
When it’s good for you babe
And you’re feeling alright
Well you just roll over
And you turn out the light
And you don’t bring me flowers anymore

It used to be so natural
To talk about forever
But ‘used to be’s’ don’t count anymore
They just lay on the floor
‘Til we sweep them away

And baby, I remember
All the things you taught me
I learned how to laugh
And I learned how to cry
Well I learned how to love
Even learned how to lie
So you’d think I could learn
How to tell you goodbye
‘Cause you don’t bring me flowers anymore

  2. Thanks Pieter also for this clip. Knew about the Robert Goulet version, but not this one. As already commented Bassey does a good job on this, and rarely under shadows the more famous version of anything she covers. But the most moving version of this song is on the Barbra Streisand album, 1977/’78, called ” Songbird”. Streisand did it solo first, and about a year later they added Neil Diamond to the track and it was a run away hit. I never liked his addition to the song. But Barbra’s solo version is the all time champ this one out.
