Who Wants To Live Forever

Who Wants To Live Forever
Written by Brian Harold May.

Released on the 1995 album Shirley Bassey Sings The Movies. Previously sung by Queen on the “A Kind Of Magic” album, released in the UK on September 15 1986. This poignant ballad was composed in the back of a car after the band had first viewed the rough cut of the film “Highlander” and became one of the central themes of the movie. It gave Queen a top 30 hit in Europe, climbing to 24 in the UK. Part of the soundtrack of the movie “Highlander” 1986.

Plot Summaries of “Highlander” from the Net
The story of Connor MacLeod, one of a race of immortals who can only be killed when beheaded with a sword. After living in peace for four centuries, he is challenged by an old enemy named Kurgan.

Intriguing story about an “Immortal” from 16th-century Scotland (Christopher Lambert) who time-leaps to modern-day America with his archenemy (Clancy Brown) in hot pursuit. It becomes a battle to the death (yes, Immortals can die), and Lambert seeks survival training from an Immortal mentor played by Sean Connery. Dazzling, energetic, and altogether confusing in its original form.

From the 1995 Des o’Connor show and from 1996 A Royal Gala:

Lyrics:

There’s no time for us
There’s no place for us
What is this thing that builds our dreams, yet slips away from us

Who wants to live forever?
Who wants to live forever?

There’s no chance for us
It’s all decided for us
This world has only one sweet moment set aside for us

Who wants to live forever?
Who wants to live forever?

Who dares to love forever, when love must die?

But touch my tears with your lips
Touch my world with your fingertips
And we can have forever
And we can love forever
Forever is our today

Who wants to live forever?
Who wants to live forever?
Who wants to live forever?
