FROM THE ARCHIVE 368 -2014-

Dame Shirley Bassey has sung Hey Jude for many years at live concerts but it was not until 2014 the song was recorded in the studio for the album Hello Like Before. The album was released on CD and vinyl and Hey Jude was only released on the CD. Below you can find the definitive version of this song. Sung in 1993 at Cardiff Arms Park where Dame Shirley performed the song with the World Choir and where you can see she is really enjoying this song immensely.

Lyrics:

Hey Jude, don’t make it bad
Take a sad song and make it better
Remember to let her into your heart
Then you can start to make it better
Hey Jude, don’t be afraid
You were made to go out and get her
But remember to let her under your skin
Then you’ll begin to make it better
And anytime you feel afraid, hey Jude, refrain
Don’t carry the world upon your shoulders
And don’t you know that it’s a fool who plays it cool
By making the world a little colder
Nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah
Hey Jude, don’t let me down
You were made to go out and get her
But remember to let her under your skin
Then you’ll begin to make it better

So let it out and let it in, hey Jude, begin
You’re waiting for someone to perform with
And don’t you know that it’s just you, hey Jude, you’ll do
The movement you need is on your shoulder
Nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah

Hey Jude, don’t let me down
You were made to go out and get her
But remember to let her under your skin
Then you’ll begin to make it better better better better

Nah nah nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah, hey Jude
Nah nah nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah, hey Jude

  1. Thank you very much Pieter. I always enjoy hearing DSB sing this particular song because she puts her individual stamp on it. She looks beautiful and sounds extraordinary. Thank you for the music notes also.

  2. Seen her 10 times in concert either at Carnegie Hall, Broadway or Westbury Music Fair, between 1980-1997. I remember when I first heard her version of this classic Beetle song. It had to grow on me compared to basically all her other material. I grew to like it the more I heard it live, all those years ago. It was great to hear it on her last Lp/cd. What a tribute for Dame Shirley to have done it in the old studio the Beetles recorded some of their music.
